Another adventure....

Getting to Hong Kong last night was quite an adventure, not a very fun one either! We started the day by packing up ALL our stuff.....I may have packed a little too much......however, in my defense, we have been here for 2 1/2 weeks and in 2 very different climates. We have worn things 2-3 times, and we even sent some stuff out to be washed. Our snow boots and jackets take up a lot of space. Not to mention all the stuff we've bought here.....
After we finished packing we ran back over to Shamian Island to get a few more things, then we had lunch at our favorite little restaurant in GZ. I'm addicted to the fried cabbage here, I must find it at home!
Once we were done eating it was time to check out and go to the train station to go to Hong Kong. We also had to get Olivia's visa and the paperwork to give to immigrations when we get to Atlanta...
So riding a train with lots of luggage is not recommended. Six pieces of luggage, 3 personal bags, a stroller and a very unhappy baby in a carrier.....not fun! Once we got to Hong Kong we decided to take the cab driver up on his offer to drive us to the hotel for 300HK dollars (~$45), probably more money than the subway/train would have been, but much less hectic. Except that the cab driver drove really fast, I may have said a few prayers in the cab.....We got to the hotel about 9 all exhausted and hungry but too cheap for room service. Our hotel was connected to the hotel so we could walk to the hotel where we found a McDonalds, AGAIN..... I will not be eating McDonalds for a while. However we did meet a couple from Sweeden, who we talked with for quite a while. He was actually adopted from Korea as a baby. They were very surprised that we have only had Olivia for less then 2 weeks because of how attached she was with ME....;-). We didn't have Internet last night so I wasn't able to post anything or call home. I'll post today's update later! Here's a few pics from my phone.

I thought the labels on the trash cans were funny.

Had to take a picture of the security guard at the security check point for the train......He's suppose to be watching the scanner.......

What she thinks of the carrier.......

  1. I can make you feel better about the taxi...we paid 500 HK dollars for a ride to our hotel in what looked like a serial killers van. :)
